North Downs Calligraphers was founded in 1988 by the late John Woodcock who was our first Chairman. The aim of the Society is to stimulate interest in fine lettering in different media, by means of newsletters and a programme of regular meetings and workshops. Recent workshops have included Card Creations, Anglo Arabian Letterforms, The Art of Adolf Bernd, Formal to Free and Easy-Cut Lino Printing. Meetings each season include The Greeting Meeting, a Christmas Social, Try Your Hand and the AGM Day including a talk/demonstrations and a social.
Our meetings and workshops take place in Effingham. Members come from a wide area stretching from Godalming in the west to Rochester in the east.
Our membership covers all levels of experience, from beginners to professional calligraphers who are members of the Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society and/or The Society of Scribes and Illuminators. Anyone interested in calligraphy and lettering will be made most welcome.
